Disco music, originally played in nightclubs with psychedelics, rose in popularity in the late 1960s, peaked during the 1970s and declined during the last half of that decade. By the middle 1970s, Disco achieved mainstream popularity because of solo singers like Amanda Lear and Donna Summer and because of groups like the Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band, and the Jacksons. However, In July 1979, itís popularity in the United States abruptly declined due to a promotional event called Disco Demolition Night that resulted in rioting.
